Aura Power wins permit for new solar project in Darlington

UK renewable project developer Aura Power has been given the green light to construct a 49.9-MW/55-MWp solar park in Darlington.

The positive planning decision was issued by the Darlington Borough Council and concerns the company’s Burtree Lane solar photovoltaic (PV) farm project. With the permit in place, the British firm intends to launch construction works on the project next year.

Once in operation, the Burtree Lane solar farm is expected to almost triple the existing renewable energy volumes produced in Darlington Borough. According to the developer’s estimates, the plant will be capable of generating enough electricity to cover the consumption of about 14,400 homes per year.

The project comes with a community benefit fund of GBP 20,000 per year, which foresees a contribution of some GBP 800,000 during the plant’s 40-year lifespan.

Aura Power has roughly 300 MWp of solar projects awaiting planning decisions across the UK. Since the start of the year, the company has secured permits for 350 MWp of PV and battery storage projects in its home country, while it also has a maturing pipeline in Europe and North America.
